This simple (only two ingredients!) cooling mask is great for soothing a sunburnt face. It's great for all skin types.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not low fat or non-fat)
  • 1 tsp runny honey (microwave for a few minutes to soften hardened honey)

Preparation:

Combine mixture, then apply to face.
Leave on for 10-15minutes.

Wash face with steaming washcloth.
For dry skin, use an extra teaspoon of honey.
Oily skin? Add a few drops of fresh lime juice.

Home made facial masks are very easy to make. There is two types of masks; a relaxing mask and a stimulating mask.Relaxing masks moisturize the skin and refresh the skin. Dry skin will benefit from hydrating masks made from glycerin, honey and oils. Ginseng or green tea masks are great for soothing skin. Facial Masks. Use warm cloth to open pores, smear on honey, leave on 15 to 30 minutes, rinse off with warm water, and then use cold water to close pores. Oily skin use some plain Milk of Magnesia, rub it on and let dry, then rinse with lukewarm water. The best homemade facial mask have used is a raw egg yolk. just apply the raw yolk to your face and neck for 30 minutes and rinse with cool water. Egg yolks are high in vitamin A. For Normal/combination skin mix one egg and 1/2 cup cooked instant oatmeal and a teaspoon olive oil until smooth. Spread on your face and leave 15 min then rinse.

Face masks have been part of beauty regimen of women since ancient times. Many fruits and vegetables can also be used to good effect. Take a nicely ripe 1/4th apple and mash it with a fork and add 1 teaspoon oatmeal and 1 teaspoon honey to it and apply it on the face and leave it on till the mixture dries on the face thoroughly and then rinse it off with ordinary water. This is especially good for all types of skin in the autumn. Avocado Facial Mask-Mash half an avocado and apply it.

Take tomato juice, cucumber juice and lemon juice; add a little calamine powder or gram flour to it. Make a paste and apply it on the skin. Wash off with lukewarm water when dries. It cleanses the skin and adds glow to it. Tomato has toning agents so it helps in toning the open pores caused with oily skin. Dry orange and lemon peels and make a powder. Add rose water and milk cream to it apply on skin. Wash off with water when dry. It clears the complexion and makes the skin tone even. It is extremely useful for highly oily skin.

Various Types of Homemade Facial Masks for Skin

1. Avocado Facial Mask-Mash half an avocado and apply it on the face thoroughly everywhere and let it stay till it dries up completely and then wash it off with cold water.

2. Banana Honey Yogurt Facial Mask-Mash a banana thoroughly and mix it with 1 teaspoon honey and 2 teaspoons yogurt and apply it on the face evenly. Leave it on the face till the skin absorbs.

3. Cucumber Yogurt Facial Mask-Make a puree of ½ a cucumber and 1 tablespoon yogurt in a blender and apply it on the face evenly. Leave it on the face for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

4. Cornmeal Facial Mask-Take enough cornmeal which will be required for the face and mix it water and make a thick tight paste and apply it in circular motions to the face and then leave it on for 10-15 minutes.

5. Mud face masks or clay face masks are best suited for oily skin.

6. Egg Almond Facial Mask-This is very good for dry skin. Beat 1 egg and add 1 teaspoon of almond oil to it and mix it thoroughly and apply it on the face evenly and leave it on for around 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off after that with cold water.

7. Clay face masks dry up in a short while after application on the face.

8. Radiance masks make use of vitamins and light diffusers to add glow to dull and lifeless skin. The skin is moisturized and toned to look smooth and young.

9. Firming masks usually come in cream or gel form. They are massaged into the contours of your face that are looser than you would like them to be.

10.Hydrating face masks moisturize dry skin and soothe the moisture-starved skin. An emollient face mask must restore natural oils in the skin and provide the hydro-lipid film on the skin.

11. Peel off masks are usually gel-based. They are applied to the face and then peeled off when dry.

This homemade milk mask recipe is very suitable for dry skin. This is a classic milk mask for the face.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp powdered milk
  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 1 tsp aloe vera gel
  • 2 drops essential oil

Preparation:

Mix ingredients well, apply to face, let sit for 15 minutes, wash off with warm water. This recipe is enough for two. Pamper your face with the nutrient of milk and let it absorbs the moist of aloe vera to rejuvenate your skin of new sensation.

This mask is great for soothing chapped, sunburned or otherwise irritated skin. 
Extra tip: This mask works well for other skin types as well. For oily skin, add a couple drops of lemon or lime juice. For dry skin, mix in a couple tablespoons of honey.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup natural yogurt (we like it just-out-of-the-fridge cold)
  • ½ cup oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works here)

Preparation:

Mix the ingredients together.
Apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes.
Wash off mask with a washcloth steamed in the microwave (careful that it's not too hot).

Two other fun options for oatmeal face masks: 
Egg whites. Mix the oatmeal and an egg white. Let the mixture dry on face, then gently wash off with a few splashes of warm water. Follow with a steaming washcloth to the face.

Apple and Honey Mask (for drying up those problem oily areas)

All you need is:

1 x medium sized apple (any type of apple will do)

4 x tablespoons of honey (slightly warmed)

Finely grater the apple into a bowl and add the warmed honey. Mix it well and apply it to your face. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse.


Tomato Mask (for a more even skin tone)

All you need is:

1 x ripe tomato

Mash up a ripe tomato and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.

FOR DRY SKIN

Milk and Honey Mask (for cleansing and softening parched skin)

All you need is:


2 x tablespoons of honey

2 x teaspoons of milk


Mix the honey and the milk together in a small bowl and smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.




Apricot Mask (for adding much need moisture)

All you need is:

1 x fresh apricot

1 x tablespoon olive oil (slightly warmed)


Mash the apricot in a bowl and mix it with the warm olive oil to form a paste. Apply it to your face and leave it for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.


Avocado Mask (for a deep moisturizing treatment)

All you will need is:

1 x ripe avocado

3-4 x tablespoons of orange juice

1 x teaspoon pure honey


Put all the ingredients into a blender, or mash by hand in a bowl. Add extra orange juice if the mixture is too thick. Spread the mask over your face and neck and leave it on for 30-45 minutes. Remove the mask with a warm flannel or muslin cloth - this will help gently exfoliate the skin as well as clean your face. If you don't use all of the mask, it will keep for a day or two in the fridge

Home made recipes are the alternative to skin care products. Not only are they completely natural, but it won't cost the earth. Most of this skin care recipes can be done from the comfort of your own home, mainly with ingredients that we already have in our kitchen.
The only inconvenience about homemade recipes for skin care, is that any leftovers can be kept in the fridge for no longer than twenty four hours, so try to make only the necessary amount and you will be saving some money.
Here is a selection of homemade recipes for skin care.
1- Avocado skin care mask
Avocados are very rich in vitamin e and c, protecting cells from external factors.
Mix half ripe avocado with a spoon of olive oil. Apply it over a clean face, leave it on for twenty five minutes and rinse off with warm water.
2- Lemon juice exfoliator
Lemons are rich in vitamin c, which is a potent antioxidant.
Mix one spoon of sugar with some lemon juice. Rub it gently over the face, avoiding the eye area. Cleanse with warm water. Don't use if you have sensitive areas on your skin.
3- Grapes to diminish sunspots
Grapes contain up to twenty antioxidants, and are a good source of vitamins and minerals.
To diminish sunspots, rub half grape over the skin, before bedtime. Rinse off with warm water the next day. Use sunblock with at least SPF 15 every day.
4- Tomato skin care mask.
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which are antioxidant red pigments that helps to prevent some forms of cancer. They are also a good source of vitamin c and alpha-lipoic-acid.Tomatoes are effective on blackheads and oily skin. The juice of the tomato has astringent properties that help remove dead skin cells and deep clean the skin's surface.
Mix a mashed ripe tomato with two teaspoons of natural yogurt. Apply it over the face, and leave it on for twenty five minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
5- Strawberry cleansing milk.
Strawberries are a mild astringent very rich in vitamin c and ellagiac acid, which helps to activate the body's natural defences.
Put in the mixer some strawberries with a little bit of milk. Cleanse your face with this mixture and a cotton. Throw away any remaining product.
6- Carrot rejuvenating mask.
This is another great homemade recipe for skin care, that will rejuvenate the skin. Carrots are rich in carotenoids, which give them their orange colour.
Boil two carrots, mash them and add one spoon of honey. Use the carrots while they are still warm. Apply it over a clean face and leave it on for fifteen minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
